Liquorice or liquorice root has a long tradition in the large Asian and European cultures. Up until today, it still is one of the most important medical plants in China. It is used as tonic for the muscles and bones as well as for smoothing the skin.

Ingredients of liquorice

Liquorice root contains flavonoids (such as liquiritin), isoflavones (such as licoricidin), coumarins, phytosterols and polysaccharides. They have calming effects on the skin and tissue, protect the mucous membranes and relax the muscles. Furthermore, they are able to promote the mucus secretion and expectoration.

The liquorice in this product is deglycyrrhizinated, which means that the substance glycyrrhizin was removed. It is approx. 50 times sweeter than saccharose (cane sugar).

Marshmallow has beneficial properties

Since the Ancient times marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is used as a remedy for the mouth and throat area and the gastrointestinal tract. The contained water-soluble mucins are made up of glycans, starch and pectins. They have a calming effect by forming a protective film on the mucous membranes. This way, the triggering stimulus is kept away and it prevents the dehydration of the mucous membranes.

Slippery elm is rich in valuable vital substances

Slippery elm (bot. Ulmus fulva) grows on barren soils, which is why its main component is mucous. The bark contains bitter substances, tannins and mucins as well as vitamin A, B, C, K and the minerals calcium, magnesium and sodium. Additionally, it contains polysaccharides, which form a smooth substance (mucous) in combination with water.

Aloe vera is a popular vital substance for the skin

Aloe vera is known for its calming and beneficial effect on the skin and mucous membranes. The contained 200:1 extract is equivalent to a daily amount of 60g aloe vera.
