Vitamin D3 20000 I.U. - 120 tablets

Highly dosed power vitamin for bones, muscles and immune defence

No vitamin is currently under more observation and in the focus of interest like vitamin D. What needs the body vitamin D for? How do we recognise a deficiency? And what can we do about that?

Vitamin D is regarded as sun vitamin, because the human body is able to form vitamin D in the skin with the help of the sun. It´s been known for about a century, but hasn´t moved into the focus of attention until the last few years. In almost every type of body cells vitamin D receptors could be found. There is a reason that a nerve cell in the brain or in the spinal cord has 500 to 1000 vitamin D receptors.

Vitamin D regulates the metabolism, supports the muscle function, activates the immune system and is essential for other important bodily functions. It contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and a normal muscle function. It also supports the cell division, contributes to the normal function of the immune system, a normal resorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus and a normal calcium level in the blood. It is widely known that vitamin D is important for the supporting and connective tissue and a smooth skin.

According to the German Food Association (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung, DGE) 60% of the German population is suffering from a vitamin D deficiency. First signs for a vitamin D deficiency are ongoing tiredness and exhaustion, heavy arms and legs and a sad mood. Even cravings for sweets can point to an insufficient supply with vitamin D.

To keep the vitamin D level on a normal niveau, it is recommended to be outdoors for a moderate amount of time without sun protection. The increasing computerisation as well as the autumn and winter months don´t make it easy for us to realise this intend. The common foods only contain small amounts of vitamin D. To take in 500 I.E. through food we´d have to eat the following daily: 4 eggs, 150g mushrooms such as porcini and shiitake, 150g avocado, 250g liver of beef, 200g mackerel or eel. A good alternative is the intake of a vitamin D supplement.

It is interesting to know that the natural aging slows down various metabolic processes in the body. This includes the ability to form vitamin D in the skin. A 70 year old person who is exposed to the same amount of sunlight like a 20 year old person produces only 25% of the vitamin D which is produced by a 20 year old person.
