Biotin 10mg - 200 tablets

Highly dosed biotin tablets without anti-caking agents

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H, is a water-soluble vitamin from the B complex. In France, it is also often called vitamin B8. It is one of the essential vitamins, which means that the body is not able to produce biotin itself and is dependent on a regular intake through food.

Foods containing biotin

Biotin is present in many foods. However, they often contain only a few milligrams. Significant amounts of biotin can be found in the following foods:
Dry yeast (200µg/100g), beef liver (103µg/100g), egg yolk (50µg/100g), soy (30µg/100g), oats (20µg/100g), walnuts (19µg/100g)

In foods, biotin is often bound to proteins and is only utilisable for the body after the vitamin was released from the protein. In order to separate the vitamin from the protein, the body needs an enzyme, which can be found in the small intestine.
Since biotin is water-soluble, vegetables should not be kept in water too long and the cooking water should - if possible - be used as well.

Biotin for the metabolism

The body need biotin for a number of important metabolic processes. It contributes to a normal metabolism of macronutrients and, among other things, is part of the fat, carbohydrate and protein metabolism. It acts as a cofactor in the gluconeogenesis. During this process, the body gains glucose from proteins and fats. The gluconeogenesis already starts in the body after a short period of hunger and ensures that the organism is adequately supplied with glucose.

Biotin for hair, skin and mucous membranes

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) considered three health-related advertising statements as proven: “Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin”, “Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes” and “Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair”. They were approved by the EU under the Regulation (EU) 432/2012.
