Caffeine stimulates the circulation and can give motivation and energy
Starting the day without a cup of coffee is unimaginable for most people. The contained caffeine stimulates the circulation and affects the mood positively. On average, every German consumes approx. 200mg of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to two cups of coffee.
Caffeine has a stimulating effect, reduces tiredness and increases the attention as well as the ability to concentrate. Additionally, it enhances the brain’s storage capability. It is an ideal supplement during an exam period to affect the learning performance positively for a short time.
Two studies confirm that caffeine is also able to improve the athletic performance. Cyclists and runners are able to maximize their endurance performance with caffeine.

The performance increase during exercising is due to the effect of caffeine on the blood vessels. It is able to dilate the peripheral blood vessels, which leads to a better supply with oxygen in the muscles. Furthermore, caffeine is able to increase the heart activity and to dilate the bronchi, which can also affect the physical performance positively.
Another advantage of caffeine seems to be a changed pain perception. The perceived physical effort during the training decreases, so the athlete is able to increase their training intensity without feeling exhausted. In other words, the training feels easier.
Caffeine needs 30 to 45 minutes to get into the blood circulation, from where it is distributed throughout the body, before it will be excreted with the urine. The half-life of caffeine in the body is approx. four hours.
