Copper 2mg

Copper: essential mineral

Copper is an essential trace element, which is involved in many different bodily functions and metabolic processes.

Copper in food

Foods rich in copper include offal such as liver, fish crustaceans, nuts, cocoa and some green vegetables. Spices rich in copper include basil, nutmeg, pepper and marjoram.
Copper can also be taken in through drinking water.

Function in the body

Copper has many functions in the human body: It is an important component of enzymes, for example lysyl oxidase, which supports the cross-linking of elastin and collagen and ensures that the skin stays healthy and elastic. Additionally, it promotes the bone strength.
Another copper-dependent enzyme is superoxide dismutase (SOD), which is an important antioxidant. Furthermore, copper is involved in the function of the central nervous system as well as in the pigment metabolism.
Copper is also necessary to support the mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cells, with the energy generation.

   Blood and immune system

As a part of the iron metabolism, the trace element promotes the iron absorption in the intestines and is needed for the blood formation (formation of red blood cells) as well as the immune defence.

Bioavailability and resorption

These tablets contain copper in the chelated form copper bisglycinate, in which the copper is surrounded by 2 amino acid molecules. Due to the chelate complex, the trace element is mostly protected against interactions with medication and food. The predominant part of copper bisglycinate is resorbed through the small intestine via special transporters into the blood.
As an organic compound, copper in the form of copper bisglycinate can be resorbed and processed well by the body.

Empfehlenswert.
