Calcium citrate containing 300mg calcium - 90 tablets
Our body contains approx. one kilogram of calcium, 99% of which are in the skeleton.
The remaining 1% is divided into 0.5% of calcium ions in the blood serum and 0.5% bound to proteins.
At 65%, calcium is the main component of our bones and responsible for the bone formation as well as for the bone structure. Therefore, calcium is of great importance for the stability of our skeleton.
Calcium for strong bones
The body breaks down and forms bones during its entire life, which is why a sufficient supply with calcium is essential, especially during the growth phase. Up until the age of 35, the formation processes outweigh the breakdown processes and the bone mass constantly increases. After that, the breakdown processes outweigh the formation processes and the bone mass usually decreases by 1.5% each year. During this time, a sufficient calcium supply of at least 1000mg daily is essential as well. (Source: German Food Association, DGE)
Calcium for the heart
Apart from the formation of bones, teeth and the palate, calcium prevents the deposition of lead and helps to regulate the heart rhythm, in which context it also promotes a healthy cardiac cycle. Furthermore, calcium is of importance for the transport of nerve impulses and the cholesterol level. The mineral ensures a proper permeability of the cell membranes and stabilises them by combining with phospholipids.
Calcium is a component of fat-splitting enzymes and of the DNA and RNA structure. It also regulates the insulin release from the beta cells in the pancreas and it activates the blood coagulation system, where it forms complexes with phospholipids and coagulation factors.
Additionally, calcium is able to support a level acid-base balance and counteract the decrease of the pH value, which inhibits the demineralisation of the teeth and promotes the remineralisation.
Calcium supports a normal weight
Calcium seems to be helpful in fighting excess pounds. Various scientific studies found evidence that calcium plays a role in regulating the body weight. An increased consumption of calcium-rich foods was linked to a lower body weight, weight loss and a lower body fat percentage. The reason is that calcium reduces the fat absorption in the intestines by binding dietary fats, which are then excreted undigested.
Other studies came to the result that an increased calcium intake in the context of a calorie-reduced diet leads to a greater weight reduction than a low calcium intake.
Furthermore, it has been scientifically established that an insufficient supply with calcium promotes the development of excess weight, because this lack of calcium stimulates the fat synthesis. There is also on ongoing debate about whether calcium plays a role in the appetite regulation.
Calcium citrate for a good resorption
Due to the organic compound, calcium in the form of calcium citrate is well resorbable and well utilisable for the body.
Studies prove that the resorption of calcium from calcium citrate is significantly better than the resorption of calcium from the inorganic calcium carbonate.

Unlike carbonates, which neutralise excess gastric acid, citrates are used by the normal metabolism. Excess gastric acid combines with the citrate due to the different charges and forms citric acid, which the metabolism burns while generating energy.
