Valerian complex with hops and balm - 90 capsules
Three plant extracts for a good, restful sleep. Tip for tension and a restless feeling.
Certainly, you know those days, when everything seems to go wrong and everything comes together: Early in the morning the coffee machine breaks, the car will not start, your boss wants you to hand in a presentation early, and, to top it all, your daughter’s teacher calls, because your daughter did not show up at school.
A few cups of good coffee helped you to survive the day and in the evening, you are looking forward to a restful sleep, but instead you are lying in your bed wide-awake and you cannot get the events of the day out of your head. You are not alone, in this regard. Many people have trouble falling asleep after drinking coffee during the day.
Valerian and hops support restful sleep
The good news is that studies indicate that consuming a hops-valerian combination might counteract the unwanted effect of caffeine on the readiness to fall asleep.
Study about valerian, hops and balm
During a pilot study, this effect was investigated closely by giving 48 healthy male volunteers at the age of 18 and 35 200mg of caffeine.Caffeine connects to the so-called A1 receptors without causing a reaction. The caffeine only blocks them. As a result, people, who consume caffeinated beverages, wake up.
In the study, the caffeine consumption already showed specific changes in the EEG after 30 minutes. The alpha waves of the brain, which indicate relaxation, decreased and instead beta waves became apparent, which indicate nervousness or tension. Some of the test persons were given a hops-valerian compound afterwards and the EEG again showed alpha waves indicating relaxation. The neutralising effect is regarded as proof that the hops-valerian compound replaces the caffeine on the A1 receptors.
According to the responsible authors of the study, this creates the necessary condition for a good night’s sleep.
What is valerian?
Valerian belongs to the Valerianaceae (valerian family) and is a perennial herbaceous plant. It is characterised by its natural ingredients, including alkaloids and essential oils, which are responsible for the typical smell. The essential oils are divided into monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes; whereas the sesquiterpenes are attributed sleep promoting and calming effects.
Properties of balm
The added balm in this product also promotes the readiness to fall asleep and helps with a restless feeling and mental tension. Like valerian, primarily responsible for these effects are natural ingredients such as essential oils.
